gumnuts...


gumnuts on a eucalyptus tree...
They usually appear autumn/winter and turn from green to a woody brown...
If they are placed in a paper bag in a warm place, the gumnuts release seeds as they ripen...

I miss all the different gum nuts from when I lived in San Diego, and the fragrances of the various eucalyptus trees. The gum nuts look kind of like a cannon.

Gumnuts are so neat! When I see them, they always remind me of The Gumnut Babies stories by May Gibbs.
